Health
Host support groups for women who have had abortions.
Promote and host a small support group for women in your church and community who have experienced abortion. Determine appropriate leadership, establish confidentiality and use biblical materials to provide appropriate guidance and support.
Start a health clinic for the under-served in your community.
Work with community organizations, national partners and local volunteers to establish a no- or low-cost health facility for the under-served in your area. Utilize the support of Christian organizations, doctors, administrators and other churches in your area to develop a partnership committed to serving the needy in the ways of Christ.
Create Caregiver Kits for developing countries.
Organize a small or large group to participate in an assembly-line production of handy kits for World Vision's caregiver network of almost 60,000 who care for chronically ill adults as well as orphans and vulnerable children in developing countries. Engage your community and use it as an opportunity to advocate organizations serving people living with HIV and AIDS and children orphaned because of AIDS
Offer to help a local Christian pregnancy support clinic.
Have a small- to medium-size group from your church volunteer with a local pregnancy clinic to spruce up the waiting room, clinic rooms or offices. Determine the needs of the clinic, and provide some basic changes to brighten the environment for patients and staff.
Conduct a community health fair.
Organize a health fair in your community to provide free information on preventative health care and choices. Promote the health fair by contacting medical facilities, health clubs and organizations for the elderly. Invite demonstrators, vendors from health organizations and community educators.
Create and distribute care packages to hospital patients.
Contact a local hospital or medical facility, and coordinate a day to visit with patients and provide care packages and quality time. Gather and organize your supplies ahead of time, and include a hand-written note. Talk with hospital personnel to discuss what items they recommend providing.
Provide free divorce recovery classes for families in your community.
Promote and host recovery classes for those in your church and community who have experienced separation or divorce. Offer a caring, confidential and supportive environment.
Host a blood drive.
Contact the American Red Cross and schedule a blood drive at your church or another location within your community. Publicize the drive, help recruit donors and schedule donors for appointment times.
Volunteer with a local hospice.
Contact your local hospice facility to support the care for people at the end of life. Work with a volunteer coordinator to cook meals, provide playtime for children, offer conversation or help out with administrative work.
Donate games and other toys to a children’s hospital, then organize a playtime.
Work with volunteer services at a local children’s hospital to provide an organized playtime. Ask hospital personnel to suggest recommended games and activities, and then conduct a community or church drive to collect toys, games and other play materials. Schedule group playtimes and individual time with children who are not able to leave their hospital rooms.
